Does the Wash in Rancho el Dorado Flood: Maricopa, AZ

Does the Wash in the Rancho el Dorado Subdivision in Maricopa Get Flooded?

So, you were looking at homes for sale in Maricopa, AZ and you found the perfect house in Rancho el Dorado.  It’s one of the subdivisions with the easiest commute into the Phoenix area.  You are getting more house for your money.  You are under contact and about to close escrow.  You want to take one last look at the house before you get the keys.  As you are driving along the road called Rancho el Dorado Parkway you notice a pretty big wash.  Then you see the sign that says “Do Not Enter When Flooded”.  You keep driving out of curiosity and notice another wash crossing the same road at the other end of the subdivision.  Your heart begins to beat fast as you reconsider your home buying decision… does this wash really flood?  Will I be able to get in or out of the subdivision if it does?

The answer is yes, these washes flood.  Is it a big concern?  No.  Rancho el Dorado Pkwy is a circle.  There is one wash that runs straight through the north end, through the middle of the subdivision, and exits at the south end.

In my time living in Maricopa I’ve noticed flooding occurs about 2-3 times a year and the gates close to the wash area when it is unsafe to drive through.  After heavy rains it usually takes a day or two for the water to make its way down the wash creating a pool of water over the road.

You will not be trapped in or out of the subdivision.  If you live on the west side of the subdivision you can get in and out at the main entrance off of John Wayne Pkwy or take Vintage Dr. to Smith Enke Rd.  If you live on the east side you will have to either cut through The Lakes at Rancho el Dorado or take Santa Rosa Dr. or Desert Greens Dr. to Smith Enke Rd.

It’s really no big deal.  It’s a pretty minor inconvenience and it barely ever rains in Arizona.  They put the gates down so you don’t try to drive through it and get your car stuck.  I would not let the wash in Rancho el Dorado flooding affect your home buying decision if you have found a nice house in Rancho el Dorado.  I live in Rancho el Dorado and love it.  I’ve never had a problem and when the wash floods it’s just a minor inconvenience to exit the subdivision a different way.  Wondering if Rancho el Dorado is in a flood zone because of this wash?  You can take a look at my post Is My Maricopa Home in a Flood Zone?

Wild Horses on 347 around Maricopa Arizona

maricopa_az_wild_horses

It’s great that you can still see horses run wild near Maricopa, AZ. You can see them sometimes while headed north or south on SR347 to or from Maricopa to the valley.  They are beautiful and are sometimes very close to the road.  If you see a mature white horse, that’s Charlie.  He is the leader of the pack.

However, much of the high speed traffic on 347 tends to slow down and cause a small backup due to drivers slowing down to view the horses, snap a quick cell phone picture or even pull over to take photographs.  So make sure to stay alert while driving so watching the lovely horsies doesn’t cause an accident.  🙂

You can read up more about the horses here!

Review of Native Grill and Wings in Maricopa, AZ

A Great Place to Eat: Formerly Called Native New Yorker in Maricopa Arizona

Review of Native Grill and Wings in Maricopa, AZ
Native New Yorker is one of my favorite restaurants to visit in Maricopa.  It is located on the corner of John Wayne Parkway and Highway 238 right behind the Circle K in the Bashas shopping center.  I would compare Native New Yorker to a smaller version of TGI Fridays.  Since I grew up on the east coast I can appreciate the pictures on the wall of New York City and the red brick decor.  There are basically three sections: the family oriented restaurant area, the bar in the back separated by glass double doors, and the outdoor patio area.

The atmosphere is fun, laid back, and family oriented.  The bar has many televisions (I counted at least 17 when I visited for lunch today) so it is a great place to watch the games or UFC.  However, my favorite thing to do there is Karoake.  They have Karaoke every Thursday and Saturday evenings.  If you stop by you may catch me singing some Bruce Springsteen, The Killers or John Denver tunes.

What else?

The wings, pizza and hamburgers are delicious but it doesn’t stop there.  They also have a variety of options, including healthy ones.  Make sure to stop by next time you are in Maricopa! You can view their menu here.

In conclusion, to sum up my review of Native Grill and Wings in Maricopa AZ, I would say I love to go to Native Grill and Wings with my family or to take a client out for lunch.  I love the food.  Their wings are always great and it’s not easy to find good wings!  I highly recommend checking out this restaurant or hanging out on a Friday or Saturday night for some fun around the bar.  It’s always a good time.
