Many of those who live in Maricopa AZ are familiar with traveling on SR 347 to get into the Phoenix valley area.  It is the main road stretching 16 miles to the south end of Chandler that gets you in and out of Maricopa.

People often want to know about traffic on SR 347 and is it Dangerous in Maricopa AZ.  In 2016, there were at least six deaths and 19 serious injuries.  The department of public safety has been listening to the concerns of local residents and is working on making it a safer highway.  They hold intense enforcement operations at random times to send the message to drivers that they need to slow down.

The complaints I hear and see first hand are about aggressive drivers going too fast.  The speed limit is, for the most part, 65 MPH over the 16 mile stretch however some drivers go as fast as 90-100 MPH.  These aggressive drivers also come right up behind you close to your bumper to get you to shift lanes so they can get ahead.  In addition, some of these speedsters weave dangerously in and out between cars.

Traffic on SR 347 and is it Dangerous in Maricopa AZ…

In my opinion, the department of public safety is doing a great job so far.  If you speed on this highway you are bound to get pulled over.  Every time I travel the road there is always one or two cars that are pulled over and being ticketed… or worse.

Regarding traffic, there can be some waiting depending on when you are traveling.  Many folks from Maricopa commute into the Phoenix area for work in the morning which can cause congestion and delays in the northbound lanes.  This is also the case in the evening between 4:00-6:00 p.m. while heading southbound.  Usually the traffic does move unless there is an accident or construction.  In that case, you may have a bit of a wait.

Let’s all remember to drive safely, be defensive to keep yourself safe, and definitely wait until you are at your destination to check your phones.
